The main object of translating polysemy is the meaning. When facing the
text, the translator will find two elements: the reader and the writer. When the
translator translates a text, the translator also conducts the interpretation of
meaning. A literary work such as a novel instead not only composes of a series of
words, including the implied meaning in it. Translators sometimes find difficulty
in finding the meaning of some polysemy words. Therefore, they fail in
transmitting the message clearly because of the English it is a foreign language.
One of the ways to solve the difficulty in translating polysemy word in a novel
text, the researcher applied polysemy translation strategy. It is important to
knowing a translation strategy of polysemy in Novel text; it can develop the
science in the translation of a word that has a double meaning. Besides that,
researcher can also get the author’s experience in translating a novel.
This research uses a qualitative descriptive method, whereas in data
analyzing researcher use descriptive technique. This technique is using written
source to gain the data, then the data which contain Polysemy words are collected
into data. This research aims to find the polysemy strategy that used in
“Divergent” Novel and how the result of the translation polysemy strategy
applied in “Divergent” Novel. There are 19 data that appear and indicates
polysemy in DIVERGENT Novel. There are three strategy applied in this analysis;
Systematic, Linear and Natural. Mostly the Systematic strategy appears in those
data, there are 12 data using systematic strategies, 6 data using Linear Strategy
and 1 data using Natural Strategy. By using the translation strategy, the translator
tries to deliver the message to reader without changing the meaning.
