This research focuses on of pauses, backchannels, and overlaps based on conversation analysis theory, in conversation of Reasonable Doubt movie directed by Petter Howitt and written by Petter A Dowling released on January 17, 2014 in the USA. When the speaker is speaking pauses, overlaps, and backchannels will occur, this is the reason the researcher analyzes pauses, overlaps, and backchannels. The purpose of the research is to find out the type of pauses, overlaps, and backchannels and to find out how pauses, overlaps, and backchannels occur in conversation from the movie. The methodology of this research uses a qualitative method. The data are collected by watching the movie and reading all the dialogues.Then the researcher classifies the data, after classifying the type of pauses, overlaps, and backchannels the researcher points out the most frequently used and the reason behind it. The result of this research shows there are types of pauses, overlaps, and backchannels. There are two types of pauses. they filled and unfilled pause. There are three types of overlaps they ar They are turn-turminal, turn-initial, and mid-turn. There are two types of backchannels. They are vocal and non vocal.
