This research aims to show how Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016)
film represents the female hero characters. The method used in this research is
descriptive qualitative applying the theory of representation by Stuart Hall, the
language aspects of film, and female action heroes in Hollywood. This research is
trying to show how female heroes in the nineteenth century are represented in this
film, by analyzing the language aspects in the film. The result shows the female
characters are portrayed very differently from women from the nineteenth century.
Even though the female heroes are appeared to be intelligent, smart, and
independent but they are still constructed to fit in with the concept of female heroes
which are sexy and attractive which create strange female hero characters. In
conclusion, even though Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016) film manages to
break the regulation of female heroes, they are still represented the same as other
female action hero characters who are sexy and attractive.
