This research aims to analyze the issue of oppression and the struggle of female characters against oppression experienced by women that occurred in the novel entitled The Blue Between Sky and Water by Susan Abulhawa which was printed in 2015 by Bloomsbury Publishing. This research applies the theory of oppression and social movements concept known as Five Faces of Oppression by Iris Marion Young, in order to understand the forms of oppression experienced by female characters and how the struggle of women to get their rights in the novel. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. In this novel there are five forms of oppression experienced by female characters in the novel The Blue Between Sky and Water by Susan Abulhawa. The forms of oppression in the novel are exploitation, marginalization, powerlessness, cultural imperialism, and violence (physical, sexual, and psychological), experienced by six female characters in the novel (Um Mamdouh, Nazmiyeh, Mariam, Alwan, Nur, and Rhet Shel). These five types of oppression are presented to illustrate the condition of women who have been oppressed in the novel by men and women The Blue Between Sky and Water by Susan Abulhawa. Nazmiyeh, Alwan, Nur, and Rhet Shel are the female characters who still survive and fighting for their rights and it is clear from the data how the struggle of female characters is against the oppression that occurs in their lives.
