No image available for this title
This study aims to analyze human trafficking of female characters achieved in Nadia Hashimi's novel The Pearl That Broke Its Shell. The research method used is qualitative, the type of research is descriptive and uses the theory of Feminist Existentialism from Simon De Beauvoir. This research tells about four female characters with different time settings. Rahima sisters are set in the same time, while Shekiba, their great-grandmother, is set in a different time. Even though they have different time backgrounds, they are victims of human trafficking. The results of this study indicate that even though Rahima, Parwin, Shahla, and Shekiba in this novel are victims of human trafficking, each of them can find the freedom they want. They find freedom in ways that are different from each other. Rahima and Parwin chose freedom in an extreme way. Rahima chose to run away from her husband's house, while Parwin burned herself in front of her husband’s house. Meanwhile, Shekiba and Shahla chose freedom by making peace with their lives. The conclusion of this study shows that victims of human trafficking do not always end badly, if each of them can find and dare to achieve the desired freedom.
