This research aims to examine women’s struggle against oppression in The Woman King 2022 film.
To fulfill the objectives of this research, the writer uses the theory of existentialist feminism by Simone
de Beauvoir which has three concepts, namely work, intellectual, and social transformation. In it, there
are three concepts of oppression, namely Destiny, History, and Myth. This research also uses supporting
tools cinematography by David Bordwell and Kristin Thompson which have three elements, namely
camera placement, camera movement, and camera focus as supporting devices for depicting female
soldiers through visualization. The writer uses qualitative methods and descriptive data analysis
techniques to find findings. Based on the research findings, the writer highlights the fact that female
characters in The Woman King film represent the role of women's struggle through their existence. The
research results show that women can experience oppression through their destiny as women, history
from past events, and myth formed by patriarchal society. Then the women's resistance strategy to fight
for their existence also proves that Agojie can fight the traditions that restrain them by being working
women, intellectual women, and actors for social transformation.
